Pastoral mobility and rituality.
Proposal for the identification of rock art performed by local pastors in the south of Pozuelos, 900-1535 ad (Jujuy Puna, Argentina)
Abstract
In the present work, we intend to deepen the study of the articulation strategies of pastoral practices of transhumance as well as the caravan traffic in the microregion of the southern sector of the Pozuelos basin (Jujuy Puna, Argentina). These two types of mobility would have been greater in the region during late pre-Hispanic times (900-1535 AD). From the analysis of seven archaeological sites with rock manifestations, the ways in which the two practices were combined were defined from a focus on stylistic, contextual and landscape expressions based on rock art. The results obtained through the analysis of these rock landscapes allow us to identify the emergence of different types of "places" related to these practices, where the ways of doing and conceiving art would respond mainly to a local development.
