“Mapuche conflict” in Chile and Argentina.
Notes for a comparative analysis of the actual context

The purpose of this article is to expose the comparison of contemporary conflicts involving Mapuche people, the national state, and private companies, on both sides of the Andes Mountain range. Through a secondary bibliographical review and the use of the comparative method, we propose that, in these confrontations, historical links between the original populations and the different socioeconomic forms, in which the national States were built and are built, are displayed. We compare demographics in both cases and review some of the main current confrontations. Linked to this, we analyze the issuance and reception of interpellations that are part of different disputes around the meanings of what is considered as ‘national’ and its emblems. Finally, we present a balance of the comparisons made, and we propose a possible reading of the place of the "Mapuche problems" within the general confrontations of societies.
