Between involvement and detachment:
reflections from the study of the indigenous community movement of Cherán
Keywords:
Norbert Elias, militant anthropology, involvement and detachment, indigenous movement, CheránAbstract
The purpose of this article is to reflect on the shift of a view focused on involvement to an orientation linked to detachment through my experience in the research I carried out in my master's and doctoral programs, both on the indigenous community movement of Cherán. To carry out this reflection, I use, as an analytical framework, the notions of involvement and detachment proposed by the German sociologist Norbert Elias. These notions provide the general orientation for framing the shift from a predominantly involvement approach to one centered on the predominance of detachment.
