Abstract

In 1609 the inhabitants of Nuestra Señora de Talavera or Esteco –nowadays Salta Province, Argentina- moved their city. In this context, several of them decided to migrate to other cities of the Gobernación del Tucumán. Based on the analysis of a wide variety of historical sources, In this work we try to understand the reason of their decisions, in particular why they took the decision either to move or to remain at a certain place. We have been able to link the rhythm of mobility of these people with the political and economical context of that time and region, their households and the social groups (elite, subaltern or middle groups) to which they belonged in this stratum colonial society.
