Resumo

Clothing constitutes one of the elements of materiality that most strongly serve to configure social boundaries, define identities and mark gender and quality differences. From a varied set of sources, female clothing practices in Córdoba, Viceroyalty of Peru, during the last quarter of the 16th century are approached with the aim of showing the particular features of the “habito de española” as well as the play of tensions perceived in the heart of a colonial society under construction.
